Seminar by Prof. Dr. Javier García-Martínez

Our Faculty of Science and Letters is honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Javier García-Martínez, one of the leading figures in the international scientific community, as a guest speaker.
García-Martínez, a professor in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry and director of the Molecular Nanotechnology Laboratory at the University of Alicante in Spain, served as president of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC)—the world’s largest chemistry organization—from 2022–2023; he was the first Spanish scientist to hold this position and had the distinction of being the youngest president in the organization’s more than 100-year history.
The mesoporous catalytic technologies he developed through Rive Technology, a company he founded at MIT, are widely used in refineries and chemical plants around the world and contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions by millions of metric tons annually.
García-Martínez is also the founding president of the Spanish Young Academy, a member of the World Economic Forum’s Emerging Technologies Council, and a distinguished member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). For his outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry, he received the King Jaime I Award in 2014 and the ACS Kathryn C. Hach Award in 2017.
We look forward to welcoming all our students and faculty members to our seminar, which will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Ahmet Karadeniz Conference Hall at the Faculty of Science and Letters, Yıldız Technical University.
