Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics

  1. To train molecular biologists, researchers, and scientists who can apply the knowledge they have acquired in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics to develop expertise in disciplines such as genetics, genomics, developmental biology, medical biology and genetics, biotechnology, synthetic biology, and bioinformatics—and thus to train molecular biologists, researchers, and scientists who are capable of building and utilizing the foundation of future technologies.

  2. To enhance students’ awareness of social responsibility and societal benefit by equipping them with the skills to engage in responsible actions aimed at promoting environmental sensitivity, sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity, and well-being, as well as fostering critical thinking and ethical decision-making.

  3. To develop and implement innovative educational approaches that are structured to address current scientific and societal needs, enhance students’ career diversity and scientific competence, and promote interdisciplinary interaction and specialization.

  4. To strengthen university-industry partnerships that enable students to develop problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning skills; reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical applications; and achieve high employability.

  5. To effectively utilize artificial intelligence and technology solutions in education and research activities, continuously advance digital transformation efforts, and implement teaching and learning methods as well as assessment and evaluation techniques that meet the demands of the day.

  6. To enhance the department’s international recognition through national and international academic exchange programs, joint projects, and dual-degree opportunities, and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among faculty and students at both the national and international levels.

The Bachelor’s Program in Molecular Biology and Genetics enables students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in the field of molecular biology and genetics to disciplines such as genetics, genomics, and developmental biology; medical biology and genetics; biotechnology; synthetic biology; and bioinformatics—and thus lay the foundation for and utilize the technologies of the future.

The program aims to develop innovative educational approaches based on interdisciplinary interaction and specialization, to continuously strengthen university-industry collaborations, and, in line with its vision of strong international recognition, to promote the exchange of international knowledge and experience.

Graduates of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics possess a body of knowledge in the field of molecular biology and genetics; are able to evaluate biological systems from a multilayered and holistic perspective; have acquired the ability to develop creative and analytical solutions to problems; adapt to rapidly changing scientific and technological developments, and are open to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations—solution-oriented professionals with a strong research culture who are well-equipped to pursue careers in various sectors.

After completing their undergraduate education, graduates can pursue master’s and doctoral programs in fields such as molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, and medical biology to advance their academic careers; or they can take on roles in R&D activities at institutions such as universities, research institutes, hospitals, genetic diagnostic centers, and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
In addition to the high-quality specialized education they have acquired;

graduates who have completed the “Biotechnology Certificate Program” can work in product development, production, and quality control departments in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries; in the fields of bioprocess engineering and industrial biotechnology, as well as in R&D institutions and organizations working with biosensor technologies;

Graduates who have completed the “Certificate Program in Genetics, Genomics, and Developmental Biology” can work at universities and public research institutes, genetic diagnostic centers, and public and private sector education and R&D institutions;

Graduates who have completed the “Certificate Program in Medical Biology and Genetics” may work at genetic diagnostic centers, hospitals, molecular testing laboratories, clinical research organizations, and institutions developing pharmacogenetics-based drugs;

Graduates who have completed the “Data Science Certificate Program” or the “Statistics in Health Sciences Certificate Program” may work in institutions and organizations—including those in environmental and health services—that require biological data analysis.

The purpose of this section is to

  • to produce graduates who possess a strong body of knowledge enabling them to conduct advanced research in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics, who have internalized scientific thinking, and who can develop solutions to theoretical or practical problems by applying their scientific thinking skills,

  • take responsible actions to promote environmental awareness, sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity, and well-being; have acquired skills in critical thinking, entrepreneurship, problem-solving, ethical decision-making, and lifelong learning;

  • Possessing the skills to use and develop current artificial intelligence and information technologies, and the ability to apply the knowledge gained in molecular biology and genetics to develop expertise in discipline-specific and interdisciplinary fields such as genetics, genomics, developmental biology, medical biology and genetics, biotechnology, synthetic biology, and bioinformatics,

  • able to use molecular biology and genetics terminology in both Turkish and English and conduct research in their field, work well in teams, and present their work effectively,

  • possess the ability to set career goals and manage their careers, and are committed to professional ethical values—and are thus qualified to work in management, scientific research, and applied roles within national and international private-sector and public institutions

to train molecular biologists, researchers, and scientists.

Students who successfully complete the program,

(PC-1) will be able to understand the fundamental structures and processes in the field of molecular biology and genetics; analyze the functioning of biological systems, cells, and genes at the cellular and molecular levels; design experiments; apply laboratory techniques; evaluate the data they obtain, and interpret their results.

PÇ-2) Be able to select appropriate methods for identifying, interpreting, and solving problems related to the life sciences by applying the fundamental concepts, principles, and theories of molecular biology and genetics.
