Department of Statistics

  1. By applying the knowledge and statistical thinking skills they have acquired in the field of statistics to disciplines such as theoretical statistics, data science, financial statistics, and statistics in the health sciences—and thus to cultivate statisticians, data scientists, researchers, and scientists who are competent in using and developing the technologies of the future.

  2. To enhance students’ awareness of social responsibility and societal benefit by equipping them with the skills to take responsible actions aimed at promoting environmental sensitivity, sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity, and well-being, as well as fostering critical thinking and ethical decision-making.

  3. To develop and implement innovative educational approaches that are structured to address current scientific and societal needs, enhance students’ career diversity and scientific competence, and promote interdisciplinary interaction and specialization.

  4. To strengthen university-industry partnerships that enable students to develop problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning skills; reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical applications; and achieve high employability.

  5. To effectively utilize artificial intelligence and technology solutions in education and research activities, continuously advance digital transformation efforts, and implement teaching and learning methods as well as assessment and evaluation techniques that meet the demands of the day.

  6. To enhance the department’s international recognition through national and international academic exchange programs, joint projects, and dual-degree opportunities, and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among faculty and students at both the national and international levels.

The Bachelor’s Program in Statistics enables students to apply the knowledge and statistical thinking skills they have acquired in the field of statistics to develop expertise in disciplines—and interdisciplinary fields—thereby cultivating statisticians, data scientists, researchers, and scientists capable of utilizing and developing future technologies.

The program aims to develop innovative educational approaches based on interdisciplinary interaction and specialization, and to continuously strengthen university-industry collaborations; in line with its vision of strong international recognition, it promotes the exchange of international knowledge and experience.

Graduates of the Department of Statistics possess in-depth knowledge in areas such as probability theory, parametric and nonparametric statistical methods, multivariate analysis, experimental design, regression techniques, and data mining. Graduates have acquired advanced skills in data collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, and modeling; they are individuals capable of selecting appropriate methods for different types of data and evaluating results within scientific and societal contexts. In this regard, graduates are equipped with the competence to contribute to data-driven decision-making processes in many fields, including health, social sciences, economics, finance, engineering, biology, education, public administration, and technology.

Graduates of the Department of Statistics can also pursue academic careers by continuing their education in master’s and doctoral programs in statistics or related fields; they can take on active roles in projects conducted by universities, research institutes, and national and international organizations.

In addition to the high-quality field-specific education they have received,

graduates who have completed the “Data Science Certificate Program” can work in technology companies, the financial sector, retail and e-commerce, healthcare, manufacturing and logistics, public services, data analysis departments of organizations, corporate IT departments, education, and R-Ge institutions and organizations,

Graduates who have completed the “Certificate Program in Financial Statistical Methods” can work in the banking and finance sector, the insurance sector, corporate accounting departments and units related to budgeting and planning, as well as in educational and R&D institutions and organizations;

Graduates who have completed the “Certificate Program in Statistics for Health Sciences” can work in public and private sector R&D departments conducting research in the fields of health and medicine, as well as in educational and R&-R&D institutions and organizations, the finance sector, the insurance sector, corporate accounting departments and budget-planning units, as well as educational and R&D institutions and organizations;

Graduates who have completed the “Certificate Program in Theoretical Statistics” can work in public institutions, private sector companies, and educational and R&D institutions and organizations in the fields of data analysis, research, and modeling.

The purpose of this section is to

  • to produce graduates who possess a strong theoretical and practical knowledge base enabling them to conduct advanced research in the field of statistics, have internalized statistical thinking, and can effectively apply this thinking and knowledge to identify, model, and solve problems in fields such as theoretical statistics, data science, finance, and health sciences;

  • who can take responsible actions aimed at ensuring environmental sensitivity, sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity, and well-being; who have acquired skills in critical thinking, entrepreneurship, problem-solving, ethical decision-making, and lifelong learning;

  • Possesses the skills to use and develop current artificial intelligence and information technologies, and has the ability to apply the knowledge and statistical thinking skills acquired in the field of statistics to further develop expertise in theoretical statistics, data science, financial statistics, and statistics in health sciences—both within these disciplines-both within and across disciplines,

  • able to use mathematical terminology in both Turkish and English and conduct research in their field, capable of working effectively in teams and presenting their work effectively,

  • possess the ability to set career goals and manage their careers, and are committed to professional ethical values—statisticians, researchers, and scientists who are qualified to work in management, scientific research, and applied roles in national and international private-sector and public institutions

statisticians, researchers, and scientists.

Students who successfully complete the program,

PÇ-1) will be able to apply their knowledge in the theoretical and applied areas that form the foundation of statistics to identify, model, and solve problems related to the field.

PÇ-2) Demonstrate proficiency in identifying statistical problems, selecting appropriate data collection methods, and organizing and interpreting data; they will be able to select and apply the necessary analytical and modeling methods to solve these problems.

PÇ-3) They will be able to analyze and interpret any phenomenon, process, or product from a statistical perspective and develop solutions to the problems they encounter using appropriate modern statistical methods.

PÇ-4) They will be able to synthesize the knowledge they have acquired in various fields using an interdisciplinary approach.

PÇ-5) They will be able to further develop their knowledge base in statistics and their statistical thinking skills in both intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary specialization areas, such as theoretical statistics, data science, financial statistics, and statistics in the health sciences.

PÇ-6) They will be able to use computer and artificial intelligence technologies, along with at least one programming language commonly used in the field of statistics, to solve problems, perform data analysis, and conduct simulations.
